Zinc orotate is a mineral with high bioavailability that combines elemental zinc with a heterocyclic compound known as orotic acid. The use of orotic acid as a helper in the transport of minerals was started by the famous German orthomolecular doctor dr. Hans Nieper as a way to increase the intake of additional minerals in body tissues. The fact that orotic acid is a substance produced in the body makes it an excellent transporter of minerals, able to easily penetrate cell membranes and increase tissue concentration.
